Every great once and awhile a product comes along that truly revolutionizes an industry. Most companies claim revolutionary products and sell the same old tweaked junk. What we invented in our Reel is the former. It is the definition of a product that truly solves its now obsolete competitions issues. Stay tuned as we grow and save your original calls if you have any… We have heard from lots of customers putting the calls they bought in the summer of 2016 in their gun safes. We think that says quite a bit and makes us extremely proud.

The Hardwood Elk Reel Elk call is durable, easy to use, never sticks with finite volume and pitch control. The ultimate in playability, dependability and realism. Using our patented Reel design we take 11 separate parts and transform them into a moving symphony of elk calling power. We were sick of calls that stuck, fell apart and just basically fell short of our expectations. So we set out to solve the issues of the cheap junky elk calls we had spent years using. The Hardwood Elk reel Elk call solves all the issues you’ve ever had with traditional call designs. It is a proven ultra effective Elk killing tool. If you are at all serious about Elk hunting you can’t afford to set foot in the Elk woods without a Hardwood Elk Reel Elk call.

These calls use our unique hinging action to trigger a size transforming reed. They play high notes and low notes and everything inbetween. The angle of closure of the top changes the pitch. Closed and the reed is very small. Open and it’s a full maximum raspy size. The unique replaceable (this is semi redundant the reeds last several seasons at least and counting…)  3D reeds catch the slightest amount of air. They function from a whisper to a scream with no change in reliability or ease of use. From calf sounds to cow talk. Locator bugles, low volume sneaking in to steal a cow bugles and full volume challenge bugles. The Hardwood Elk Reel Elk call does it all. Buy one and try it and see if your eyes don’t light up!

  • Can be operated with your hands or used hands free to stop an animal in a shooting lane.
  • All wood construction for optimal acoustical performance. Wood offers exceptional tone producing qualities. Sounds incredibly life like. Design was optimized for durability.
  • durable patented hinging action with a high strength steel spring gives a predictable playability
  • They are waterproof. Moisture does not affect the performance. They have killed late season elk down to -22 F they will not freeze!  We have played our calls after soaking them in highly corrosive saltwater. Then tested them for months. Those calls still play today! You can leave them on the dash in the sun. The reeds can withstand 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Uses ultra long lasting nitrile reeds. Gives the ultimate in saliva corrosion resistance. The reed never sticks to the top. The action is never unpredictable. Unaffected by adrenaline
  • CNC machining insures precise internal geometry. We use advanced modern tools to design our calls. 3D modeling and CNC means our design is on the cutting edge. The geometry is a result of years of trial and error. The result is perfection
  • Plastic reed retention pins make replacing a reed a snap. Our original calls used wooden pins. These upgrade the consistency of the sound as well as allow almost unlimited reed replacements. You will probably never need that feature!

I bought this call in August 2016, just before I headed out for the Utah Elk hunt. I’m an Elk call “Junkie” and the novelty of the call peaked my interest. The call is crazy easy to blow and make a decent sound out of right away. The sounds from this call are fantastic. It ended up being my favorite call. In fact, my hunting partner couldn’t tell the difference between the elk reel and the real elk when separated by the woods and some yardage. That’s saying something because he’s a really experienced caller/hunter and is very hard to fool. I also really liked how consistently it blew. I got the sound I wanted, every time. It never once gummed up like my open reed calls. I was initially concerned that i’d have a hard time to get a louder volume out of the call, but once I got in the woods, it was clear that concern was unfounded. It wasn’t an issue for me at all. Bottom line…I love how this call performed.

Minor downside: this call will suck your lips dry after a couple days. For me, it’s too big to just keep in my mouth, and even if you did, you can literally feel the moisture being sucked out of your lips. But, I took along some lip balm, and didn’t really have a problem on a 6 day hunt.

slightly bigger downside: After I first got the call, it became apparent to me that carrying the call around could be an issue. I like to hold my diaphragm calls in my lips so my hands are free. My open reeds I can keep on a lanyard…but this call presented a challenge. 5 Days into the hunt, and despite my best efforts, I lost the call. I was within 40 yards of a really nice 6 point heard bull, and in the process of setting up an arrow I must have dropped the call. I was careful the whole time, always putting it in the same place because I was so worried about it. Sadly, in the heat of the moment, I thought I had put it in the pocket of my bino case…but, after a 200 yard cat/mouse chase, I needed the call again and realized it was gone. After backtracking for quite some time, I couldn’t find it again. In my opinion, this call REALLY needs some method to tether the call to you. If I loose a $6 mouth diaphragm I don’t feel to bad about it. But the Elk Reel is $40!!! Perhaps it was a self-fulfilling prophesy…

In the end, I absolutely recommend the call to anyone. Just be sure to hang on to it, and bring some lip balm! Id’ give it 4.5/5 stars.

    • Thanks Nick! We are still trying to solve the lanyard issue with out adding much increased costs to the calls. However a quick couple or wraps of electrical tape and you can add your own to the call just dont make it too tight that the action is impeded. We just keep one in each hip pocket and we are not fans of using it hands free with a lanyard.

Went to the Wisconsin deer and turkey show. Wasn’t going to go until I saw you guys on the exhibitor list. Never heard of you but liked what I saw online. Have been scouring the internet looking for a call that’s easy to use. I have a few guys that I go with that have a tough time with diaphram and open reed calls.

I had this down in 5 seconds. I’m a stickler for sound quality. Some brands use too narrow of a reed on their open reeds and it sounds like a predator call. Every bite and blow elk call has this same problem, some to me sound like a kazoo.. The squeeze calls can’t change tone, its always the same sound. The elk reel was the call I have been looking for for years. It’s not as raspy as some diaphragm calls I like. But you can manipulate the call to do everything you want. Awesome awesome call that everyone, especially beginners or guys that have a tough time with diaphragm calls should have in their arsenal.

To solve the lanyard issue I took a small eyebolt, put it on the face of the larger piece of wood and have had no issues. Wish you guys all the best. Great call!

    • Ernie,
Nice to meet you in Wisconsin. We remember you telling us we were the only reason you came to the show. We are so happy you like your Elk Reel. Hopefully you will use it to harvest an elk this fall! Be careful with a lanyard only attached to one side of the call. We found this caused us to lose one side of it in the heavy oak brush etc. We will hopefully have that issue solved by next season. If you continue to use the lanyard we would recommend to wrap a piece of rubber electrical tape over the o-ring. Anyways glad you modified it to suit your needs. Its doable a few different ways. We just however keep em in a hip pocket.

      Thanks for your support!
